I recently signed up to write for Demand Studios.  They are an online content company that offers freelance writing assignments.  This is one of the better paying freelance websites, but considering the pay that most sites offer writers these days, it doesn’t take much to be a better paying site.

There are mixed reviews out there about Demand Studios.  Some don’t think they pay enough, others think they’re great.  I am somewhere in the middle of both of those arguments.

You can earn from $3.00 up to $30.00 per article.  I have been writing for the site for about three weeks now, and have only seen three specific pay amounts: $3.00, $7.50, and $15.00.  The articles for $3.00 are basically just responses to specific questions, and they only have to be 30-50 words long.    If you choose an article for $7.50, the length requirement is 150-200 words.  Articles that pay $15.00 require 300-400 words.

Once you establish yourself as an above average writer, then you will have access to higher paying assignments, from $20.00 to $30.00.  I just recently completed my tenth article, so I finally have access to the higher paying assignments, however, there are never any assignments listed for the higher paying amounts.  Either none of these assignments are ever listed, or I just miss the ones that are.

Is Demand Studios a good freelance writing company to work for?  Generally, I would say yes, depending on your main purpose.  If you are a decent writer who writes just to make extra money, then this site is an option for you.  If you are a career writer, maybe not, because the pay, though it seems a lot compared to other freelance sites, is just not substantial enough.

What I like About Demand Studios

1.  They pay significantly more than other sites I’ve reviewed.  Some freelancing websites should be down right ashamed of the sweat shop pay they offer to writers.  At least Demand Studios offers a slightly more respectable rate.

2. You get paid twice a week, Monday and Friday, directly through Paypal.  I’ve been paid on time since I started with them.  Some other content sites only pay once a month, or less than that.  So, if you want to write and earn money quickly, Demand Studios is an option.

3.  The availability of work is endless.  There are tons of titles to choose from.  All you have to do is log in to the assignment board, scroll though the topics, and pick which ones you want to write about.  There are always topics available, so you can always work.  You won’t have to fight for assignments.

4.  The editors are easy to work with.  I’ve read reviews that described some of the editors as rude, demeaning, and not knowledgeable about the topic of the articles they edit.  So far, my experience with the editors is positive.  I’ve had only two articles sent back for brief rewrites, and the comments left were constructive.   Of course I’ve been with the site for only three weeks, so I will post updates about the rudeness if any is displayed.

5.  You can work when you want to.  There are no rules or stipulations on when, or how much you have to work.  Sometimes I work on four or five articles a day, and sometimes I only finish one.  That’s the beauty of it, making money on your own terms.

What I Don’t Like About Demand Studios

1.  Some of the topics are difficult to tackle.  There are  topics listed such as “How to Design Geo Thermal Heating”.  I always skip over titles like this one and opt for ones like “Discount Hotels In Savannah, Georgia”.  The problem is, most of the time, the more difficult topics out number the easier ones.  I usually scroll through until I find a topic I know about, or one that won’t be hard to research.

2. The work involved does not equal the pay.  I mentioned above that some of the topics are difficult to write about.  I find that I spend a lot of time researching and researching, and researching again.  It can be time consuming, especially if the topic you choose has very little information readily available about it.  If it takes you three hours to research and write an article, then your pay per hour for that article is greatly reduced.

3.  The pay scale is too low.  I mentioned before that the pay is decent compared to other companies.  Still, it depends on the amount of work involved for an article.  I wrote a few that took 2-3 hours.  Those were more difficult topics, but, more difficult should equal more compensation.  Also, they want you to include reputable references with every article.  That in itself should equal more pay.

4. There is a wealth of information to digest.  There are certain guidelines, rules, and writing styles that you must follow, otherwise your articles could be sent back for rewrites.  All of this information can be overwhelming at first, especially if you are not a seasoned writer.

Conclusion

Overall, I have made extra money with Demand Studios, but sometimes the pay did not equal the work I put in.  I try to pick easier topics, or topics that I already know about so that my work time per article is reduced.  Hopefully, in the future the company will reassess their pay scale, and offer more to the writers that produce so much content for them.  That remains to be seen.

Until then, if you like freelance writing, and you want to earn extra money now,  then signing up for Demand Studios is just a click away.  You can try it out, and see how you like it.  If the process is not to your liking, then you can quit.  I am still in the honeymoon phase.  I like the extra money, and so far, most of my experiences with the company are positive.

You will have to submit a writing sample, and a resume, then wait to be approved.  I was approved the day after I applied, but some others have reported up to two weeks for an acceptance email.  They claim to be very selective when choosing new writers, so make sure the writing sample you submit reflects your best work.

If you are already a writer with Demand Studios, please feel free to share your comments.  If you are going to sign up, please come back and comment about your experiences.  Perhaps we can share a tip or two for getting the work done faster.
